What is the Art-splanations podcast?
Art-splanations is a podcast that is focused on answering questions about art for the non-artists, art lovers, artists, and everyone in between. Our hosts Andrew and Joanna discuss the topics in a plain and easy to understand way that doesn't require any knowledge of the Arts or Art History. Each art related question is first asked in an internet search engine as a baseline answer to discuss.
Why ask an internet search engine?
We ask the question first of an internet search engine because that is the most common place a person who is curious about art would ask their questions. This gives us a common place to begin and helps remove our own bias.
Why make the podcast?
We are making this podcast because art is for everyone, because we love art, and because we want to talk about art. By sharing our opinion on various artistic topics we open ourselves up to others opinions and gain a chance to learn from them. We also know that it can be intimidating to talk to a knowledgeable professional about art. The specific philosophical and art historical vernacular used to discuss the world of art can turn people away from learning about art. This is why we want to help bridge the gap between the non-artist and the professional.
What qualifications do the hosts have?
Andrew and Joanna discuss each topic from the point of view of an artist who is working tirelessly to quit their day job and work full time as a professional artist. Andrew has graduated from Texas A&M University with his Masters of Fine Art, and Joanna graduated from the same University with her Bachelors of Fine Arts. This places them in the position of independent artists who are not totally submerged in the art world but neither are they completely out of it.
Can I contribute to the discussion?
YES! If you have a question you would like us to ask, comments, or criticisms please use the contact form below and let us know what you think.
We make every attempt to provide accurate information from artist names, quotes, dates and sources but the nature of our podcast is informal so we will include corrections in the episode notes, but we are human and won't catch all the mistakes, so if there is something we got wrong or missed please let us know and if you have a source let us know that too.
